JPNI 16th Annual Symposium: Current Techniques in the Treatment of Cranial and Spinal Disorders

Thank you to everyone that participated in our 16th Annual Symposium!

The annual symposium is jointly provided by the Justin Parker Neurological Institute (JPNI) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and facilitated by Boulder Neurosurgical & Spine Associates. The symposium offers a one-day extensive seminar that brings together a diverse panel of experts to disseminate advancements, scientific discoveries and innovative technologies to the medical community and into clinical practice.

More than 200 participants attended the 16th Annual Symposium on Current Techniques in the Treatment of Cranial and Spinal Disorders on November 3, 2019. Attendees heard presentations from ten speakers, discussing a wide variety of topics. Topics included new frontiers in deep brain stimulation, pitfalls and legalities in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring in spine surgery, leveraging physics to fight cancer, cannabinoids in neurological surgery, technology and robots in spine surgery, and much more.

Unfortunately, our keynote speaker had an emergency and was unable to present. But the highlight of the day came from our very own David Shafer, MD who stepped in at the eleventh hour to deliver a presentation on spontaneous hemorrhages in the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Shafer received his medical degree with honors from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, where he was the recipient of multiple academic awards. He then proceeded to train in neurosurgery at the University of Colorado in Denver, where he completed his residency, including a year as chief resident.

A big thank you to our more than 50 sponsors and exhibitors to visit throughout the day – your continued support makes this event possible each year.
